Natural ways to get rid of dandruff

Dandruff can be an embarrassing condition to have.

Here are some natural ways to get rid of dandruff without the use of  harmful chemicals

Tea tree oil:

What gives tea tree oil its dandruff fighting ability is its antifungal properties. It gets rid of the yeast Pityrosporum ovale, which is known to cause dandruff. The oil appears to be effective and well tolerated in the treatment of dandruff.

Kaffir lime:

Kaffir lime is used often in Southeast Asian cuisine to get rid of strong odors in food. In the same way, kaffir lime is also used in shampoos to get rid of odors on the scalp. The essential oil from the kaffir lime strengthens hair follicles and also stops the growth of Candida alcicans, a microorganism that is known to cause dandruff.

Apple cider vinegar:

One of the main causes of dandruff is yeast growth on the scalp. Apple cider vinegar is very effective against fighting yeast. Because of its acidity, it changes the pH levels on the scalp, making it difficult for yeast to grow.

Tip: As seen on Dr. Oz,  mix Mix a quarter-cup apple cider vinegar with a quarter-cup water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spritz it on to your hair and scalp. Wrap your head in a towel. Leave on from 15 minutes to an hour, then wash your hair. Try this treatment twice a week as a natural alternative to anti-dandruff shampoos.

Sesame oil:

Sesame oil and ginger juice is a dandruff fighting mixture, passed down from ancient Egypt.

Tip: Combine 3 tbsp. of sesame oil, 2 tbsp. of ginger juice, and 1/2 tsp. of lemon juice. Medical anthropologist John Heinerman, PhD suggests, “treat your dandruff by rubbing this herbal combination into the scalp three times a week.”
